Sourav Ganguly's recent batting form has come in for criticism from some quarters. The criticism would have been more severe but for India's success in the Test series against Australia.
The Indian captain, however, has made a conscious decision to increase practice time at the nets. In an interview to a vernacular daily in Kolkata from Indore, Ganguly has said, "Even though, I never really liked batting at the nets, I have to do it now. I had never passed through such a bad patch in my career. I have to regain my form quickly."
When asked as to why he was not discussing the matter with greats like Sunil Gavaskar, Ganguly said, "If he had been close to the team, I would have definitely taken his advice. However, he is nowhere near the Indian team at present. This is such a problem that it cannot be solved over the phone. Sunnybhai will have to see my batting at the nets, before pointing out the flaws."
Ganguly has stated that he had also discussed his problems with his opening partner Sachin Tendulkar. "However, he has assured me that my technique is okay and that I need not worry much and that runs will automatically come." However, he is the first to admit that he has been losing concentration now and then.
