Indian pace bowler Ajit Agarkar has made himself unavailable for selection in the Second Test at Kolkata. His father Bhalchandra Agarkar submitted a hand-written letter along with a medical certificate to the executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar on Tuesday stating the reason of his unavailablity for the Second Test. Diwadkar, however, said that in the letter, Agarkar had added that he would make himself available for selection for the Third Test at Chennai.
Ajit Agarakar told CricInfo: "I still have the viral infection and it should take a few days for me to fully recover. I am feeling very weak and the doctor has advised me rest."
On the nature of his illness, the 24-year-old paceman said: "I contracted the virus on the third day of the Mumbai Test. I have been consulting my family doctor for the treatment." The Indian physiotherapist was also aware of the condition of the Indian bowler. Agarkar added: "I have spoken about it to (Andrew) Leipus and also to the Board."
Agarkar was optimistic about his fitness for the Chennai Test, starting on March 18. He said: "Hopefully I should be fit by then and I will make myself available for selection before the Test."
